Domestic Excellence

The rain has finally come back, and it means business. It has been raining hard for about an hour, and raining more lightly for much longer than that. We are wondering how our driveway will hold up. It was only a matter of time before this happened, but it is still not cool to watch. We have a chance of a severe thunderstorm tonight with huge volumes of rain. Now we wait and see what happens. We had to move the van back to the end of the driveway again in case it is not passable in the morning.

On the domestic side of life, I did something today that I have never done before. I made ice cream. Well, it is not done yet, but soon we will indulge in some, hopefully with homemade chocolate sauce. As I type this, there are two very important points I must make. One, we do not have an ice cream maker. We are using our KitchenAid mixer, as per the advice of one of my sisters-in-law. My second point is as follows. Only after I began typing this paragraph did I realize that I did not really make ice cream at all. It was my idea, and I got the recipe and instructions, but as it happens, Mike did almost everything without me. Hm. I was really revelling in my domestic excellence, when it turns out he is the one with all the talent. In fact, he just made home made hot fudge sauce. Let me tell you, this sauce is beyond anything you've ever tasted. In about 20 minutes we will indulge in home made ice cream with home made chocolate sauce...none of which I can take the credit for. Oh well. I was still the driving force behind the whole operation, so that has to count for something, right?

And on that note, I will sign off for the evening. It is only 8:30 p.m. but already I can hardly keep my eyes open. Hopefully I will last long enough to enjoy the fruits of my...ahem, Mike's labour.
