On The Road

After a tremendously stressful and difficult spring and early summer, we have finally taken the plunge and hit the road for a holiday. We are not doing anything exotic by most people's standards, but for us it really is. Our boys have never been on a holiday before, and for Mike and I this is our third trip in eleven years of marriage. Our second one was only for a long weekend, when we went to Minneapolis, and Cody was along for that ride at 16 months old. Jamie was along for the ride too, as I was about 20 weeks pregnant.

This time we have headed west and we are currently at a hotel in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Our hotel is actually really nice, and our room is currently very dark and mostly silent except for a very exuberant Micah, who is singing and making some pretty good beat box noises with his mouth. It's very cute, but at this point it is difficult to say whether anyone in the room will be sleeping tonight or not. On the other hand, I am wondering whether Jamie has finally conked out. He is in a double bed and Cody is on a hide-a-bed. They were originally both in the double bed, but Cody repeatedly said, "Jamie's touching me!" and "Jamie, move over!", when in fact it was Cody who was right in the middle of the bed and Jamie who was in danger of falling off the edge. Now Micah is gargling, to a tune, and Cody is trying to strike up a conversation with me. Mike has his iPhone, so he is perfectly occupied.

We spent a little time in the pool and Cody actually swam. That was a first for him. I ran over to Zellers (blech, not my favourite store!) and bought each of them water wings and a floaty ring, and Cody actually swam with his. Jamie was way too scared to get in, and Micah came right in and then panicked and changed his mind. At any rate, I think they all had fun and it was the first time we have ever swam as a family. I think it was the first time I have swam in three years. Wow.

Tomorrow morning we will head to Calgary and I'm not sure just yet what we will do there. Looks like it is going to be rainy and stormy there, so we will probably do some pool stuff again, and maybe we'll even do some shopping for Micah's birthday, which is on Wednesday.

Here are a couple of pictures of the boys in the queen bed when we arrived at the hotel:

I don't know whether most people will be able to tell, but in the picture above, Micah looks just like Jamie! Normally I don't see any of Jamie in him, but wow. I did in this series of pictures.

Anyway, we are all in decent health so far this trip, and the boys did quite well on the journey, considering we were in the van from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. when we arrived. Tomorrow will be a three hour drive, which is not nearly as far. I am really looking forward to seeing the mountains, but that will be later this week. Wednesday afternoon or evening maybe...I can't remember the plan. I will be taking lots of pictures there for sure. I'm off for now.

So happy you are doing something fun! Wow, only your 3rd trip in 11 years of marriage - that's crazy! May you enjoy every moment.

It's hard to believe my 3 close friends are all in Alberta right now...& all in separate areas!

Anyway, just thought I'd say "hi" & can't wait to see your pictures. I'm sure your boys will have a blast!
